18w British Tube Amp Build
This clone of the classic Marshall 18 watt Plexi amp was hand built to vintage specifications from Marshall including point to point Teflon insulated wires to withstand the 600+ volts that the vacuum tube plates required and special SOZO paper in oil capacitors, similar to the parts that came with the original amp in 1958.
The main challenge I faced during the construction of the amp did not come from soldering or mounting, but from sourcing parts on my very limited budget. Most 18 watt clones are built out of kits from large reputable manufacturers, costing upwards of $1000. I eventually settled on a build comprised of individually sourced components, used transformers from an older amp and a hand machined chassis that ended up costing me around $300 total.
